Dan Dickerson: Tigers Power Shows

It went right down to the final pitch - but the Tigers salvaged one game out of their three game series with the Dodgers with a 7-5 win on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium. Thanks to four home runs, the Tigers took the lead in the second inning, and held that lead until the 9th. But in the bottom of the 9th, the Dodgers loaded the bases on two singles and a walk against Tigers' closer Jose Valverde. Valverde struck out pinch-hitter Casey Blake for the second out. Then, with two strikes, Dioner Navarro hit a long fly ball to deep center field - on a line - and Austin Jackson made a fine running catch onto the warning track for the final out. The Tigers got home runs from Casper Wells, Magglio Ordonez (his first since coming off the disabled list), Miguel Cabrera and Don Kelly. Al Alburquerque got the win by pitching two and one-third innings - critical innings - bridging the gap from the fifth inning to Joaquin Benoit in the eighth. He picked up his second win of the year. Rick Porcello lasted just four and two-thirds innings, and gave up four runs on nine hits. The Tigers finished their trip to Colorado and Los Angeles 2-4. They start a ten game home stand Friday night against Arizona.
