Matt Dery's Daily Update 6-28-11

All of the sudden the Tigers are hot again. First place Detroit has won 3 in a row and 4 of 5 as they start up a 3 game series with the New York Mets at Comerica Park. Rick Porcello is looking to do what Max Scherzer did last night and that's pitch well enough to give the bullpen more rest. Mets come in after taking 2 of 3 from Texas, righty R.A. Dickey goes for New York.

Indians are a game back of the Tigers in the A.L. Central; they play at Arizona again tonight.

Foxsports.com reports that the Tigers are shopping lefty Brad Thomas, another one of their bullpen arms that they feel is expendable. Thomas is on a rehab stint right now in Toledo.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the NFL owners and players will sit down again and go through labor discussions for the remainder of this week, the two sides agreeing to meet in Minneapolis through Friday. It's the fifth straight week now that the two sides have sat down together.
