Detroit Freep, News Hatch DealChicken.com

The Detroit Media Partnership Wednesday announced hat on Tuesday, July 12, it will launch DealChicken.com, a unique daily deals site promoted in The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press.

This is part of a larger rollout by Gannett Co. Inc. (NYSE: GCI), the Free Press' parent company, to more than 50 markets across the U.S. by the end of 2011. The deal service launched in Phoenix, Ariz. in September.

"We have been connecting consumers and businesses for generations," said Rich Harshbarger, vice president of consumer marketing and communications for the Detroit Media Partnership. "Our brands are committed to the long-term growth and success of our customers. DealChicken provides another way to promote local businesses and all they have to offer."

Consumers can sign up now to receive future DealChicken Detroit daily deals by visiting http://dealchicken.com. Local merchants interested in partnering with DealChicken on daily deals should also visit the Web site. Merchants determine how many people must agree to purchase the deal in order for it to "hatch." Revenue is shared between the merchant and DealChicken.

Detroit Media Partnership L.P. manages the business functions of the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News. As the largest newspapers in Michigan, with two of the most visited Web sites in the market, the Free Press and The News combine to reach a weekly audience of 1.8 million people. Detroit Media Partnership is also the advertising sales agent for the following suburban Detroit publications: Observer & Eccentric, Novi News, Milford Times, Northville Record, South Lyon Herald and Livingston County Daily Press & Argus. Gannett Co., Inc., owner of the Free Press, is the general partner in DMP; MediaNews Group, owner of The News, is the limited partner.
