West Michigan Man Killed By Falling Tree

GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a 38-year-old man died after a tree was knocked over by high winds that accompanied the severe storms that blew across the state Monday.

The Grand Rapids Press reports the man was trapped Monday morning in a garage by a fallen tree in Cutlerville, south of Grand Rapids.

The tree was knocked down as thunderstorms moved across the southern part of the state, prompting warnings from the National Weather Service. In Holland, about 80 mph winds were reported and an officer was unhurt after a police cruiser was hit by a fallen tree.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports a 1927 Ford Model T was crushed by a tree in Muskegon County's Muskegon Township.

Meantime, on the east side of the state, Dearborn Police said a woman was injured when she was hit by a falling tree. It was unclear how badly she was hurt.

Downed trees and power outages were reported across the state, Monday afternoon, after the worst of the storms blew through.  Over 100,000 homes and businesses lost power. (More on this story, here).
