A New Home For The Concours d'Elegance

A very important summertime car show is moving to a new location.

Organizers say they are moving the annual Concours d'Elegance of America from Meadowbrook to The Inn at St. John in Plymouth, because they need a location on site to house people who are now coming to the event from around the country.

"We have people coming from the east coast, the west cost, from Texas, from Montana," said selection committee chair Brian Joseph. "People are coming from all over the country to participate in this."

The classic car show is Sunday, July 31st. But it's part of several days of events. You can learn specifics by following this link.

Joseph says one thing won't change, the collection of classic cars that will be lined up outside the Inn at St. John.

"We're gonna have a lot of cars this year, over 300 cars," said Joseph. "One of the most important classes we're going to have is the Indy cars. 100 years of Indy racing. There's going to be 33 Indy cars, lined up on a grid like they would be at Indianapolis."

Some of the vehicle were on display at a preview event, including a car that raced in the 1931 Indianapolis 500. Owner Terrance Adderluy was able to drive it on the Indanapolis speedway during an event a few weeks ago.

"We kept it a little bit above the speed we were told to keep it at," he said. "She averaged 75 miles per hour and just purred all the way around."

Among the other featured vehicles at the Concours d'Elegance of America are classic Duesenberg's, Lincolns from just before and just after World War II and classic chrome filled vehicles from the 1950's.
