St. Clair Shores Gets Hit With Rash Of Car Break-Ins

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - A rash of car break-ins has one St. Clair Shores Community on high alert.

Fifteen cars were targets of theft over night and that has left neighbors talking to each other and being more vigilant about protecting their cars, homes and each other.

WWJ's Kathryn Larson spoke with St. Clair Shores patrol officer, Michael Notoriano on what police are doing.

"We will step up our patrols and we will be watching out for certain things to attempt to catch the people who are responsible for this," said Notoriano.

Notoriano says that while some cars have their locks 'jimmied' open, many vehicles were easy targets.

"A lot of times these vehicles were left unlocked, and it makes it very easy for somebody to just open the door and help themselves," said Notoriano.

Many residents told WWJ that they have lived in the neighborhood for years and have never felt like they needed protection against crime until now.

Thirty-four year resident of Raymond street, Mary St. John says nothing like this has happened before.

"It makes you feel a little uneasy," said St. John.

Resident Carl Densler tells WWJ that he hasn't seen any problems in the neighborhood before. "I'd say it's actually a very quiet street, good neighbors, good friends," said Densler.

Densler says the rash of break-ins that took place on Tuesday has never happened in the neighborhood before and plans to keep his dogs outside even more.

Dogs are always a good deterrent, they know when somebody is coming up says Densler.
