U Of M Campus On High Alert

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - A rash of crime around the University of Michigan's Campus has police on high alert.

WWJ's Kathryn Larson reports that the most recent was a sexual attack just after midnight Monday on State Street near U of M. Ann Arbor Police Sgt. Craig Flocken says the victim -- in her early 20's -- has met with medical personnel and detectives as they try to find her attacker, who came out and grabbed her. Flocken says the woman was talking on her cell phone when the incident occurred, but it did not prevent this from happening. That's why he's asking young women on campus to do something specific if they're walking today:

"There's always people out there looking for crimes of opportunity and when you travel with somebody else, you obviously lessen that chance of something happening to you," Flocken said.

In the last week there were two attempted sexual assaults -- along with an attack over the weekend -- but Flocken does not believe these cases to be related.
