Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak Earns Chest Pain Reaccreditation: Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak has earned reaccreditation as a chest pain center with percutaneous coronary intervention from the Society of Chest Pain Centers, an international organization focused on improving care for heart patients. The three-year accreditation signifies that Beaumont has the expertise and commitment to provide high quality chest pain care by meeting or exceeding stringent SCPC criteria that includes coordinating chest pain care with local EMS agencies, assessing, diagnosing and treating patients quickly, effectively treating low-risk patients with no definitive cause for chest pain symptoms, continually improving processes, ensuring staff competence and training, supporting community outreach programs that educate the public on promptly seeking medical care for chest pain symptoms. Beaumont is a recognized leader in the use of CCTA (coronary computed tomography angiography) to diagnose chest pain in the Emergency Center. Beaumont's published research (Journal of the American College of Cardiology, 2007) proved that CCTA is accurate, definitive, and much faster and less costly than the standard diagnostic testing for emergency room chest pain patients. As a result, patients go home more quickly with a definitive diagnosis and unnecessary admissions are avoided. Beaumont research was also instrumental in proving that emergency angioplasty is the most effective way to treat heart attack. Along with ensuring prompt, effective treatment within Emergency Centers, SCPC's goal is to reduce heart attack mortality by teaching the public to recognize and react to the early symptoms of a possible heart attack.
