Zipments Courier Delivery Web Site, iPhone App Goes Live
Zipments, a Grand Rapids company that has created a Web site to link couriers with people and companies that need items delivered, says it is now live nationwide.
Zipments went live in Grand Rapids in May and launched service a week ago in New York City and Chicago.
Zipments has now released its iPhone application for couriers and customers in the Zipments marketplace. Now Zipments users can save money or make money getting items across town, right from their iPhone.
The Zipments mobile app is free and allows couriers to find new Zipments job postings, bid on them, track existing jobs, receive routing information on any job in the marketplace and confirm delivery of completed jobs. The app also allows couriers to post questions directly to customers on jobs in their area.
Customers can use the app’s Web interface to post new jobs, with upcoming versions allowing for jobs to be posted within the app.
Zipments is concentrating on growing the Chicago and New York City markets but the mobile app release allows users to post jobs in any community throughout the United States.
“Zipments is community-based service so regardless where you live, you can bring the Zipments marketplace to your community,” says CEO Garrick Pohl.
Zipments was founded by Pohl, Elliot Nelson and Travis Brack. Nelson and Brack are the technical development team behind Zipments, and all three formerly worked at a Holland company that made mobile applications for vehicles and homes. That team built a mobile app for a large, global delivery service, and it got them thinking about logistics. With mobile technology what it is, you can always find people near you who are heading where your items need to go. Also, there are many people looking for part time, flexible work. Thus, Zipments was born.
Zipments officials say they want to hear from potential users on how their region could benefit from Zipments. Send ideas and feedback to firstname.lastname@example.org and include ways you think your city would use Zipments to send things around town. The Zipments team will be giving away Zipments t-shirts to respondents with the best responses.
Zipments launched May 2011 in Grand Rapids and is an online marketplace for businesses and individuals to post same day delivery jobs. Local couriers registered on Zipments bid on these deliveries to make extra money in their spare time. Zipments couriers must be over 18, with a text enabled phone, reliable transportation and a verified PayPal account.
