Gov't To Pay Ford Motor Over $10 Million To Settle Cleanup Lawsuit
DEARBORN (WWJ) - Uncle Sam agrees to pay $10.8 million dollars to settle a claim by Ford over cleanup of the company's Rouge complex in Dearborn.
This involves pollutants dating back to when Ford built vehicles for the military during World War One. Ford sued the government in federal court in Detroit in 2004.
The settlement will go toward the estimated $99 million dollar future cost of the cleanup.
Ford opened the Rouge complex in 1917. It built tanks, boats and other materials for the U.S. government during both world wars.
