DETROIT (WWJ) – A key to any sort of economic recovery is dependant on consumer buying.

WWJ’s Rob Sanford says retailers say they’re feeling better about things after some news last week.

That news was that retail sales last month saw its biggest jump since March … this despite record lows in consumer sentiment.

Retail analyst Brian Sozzi says he’s surprised at the reaction of stores.

Both Wal-Mart and Home Depot have revised their outlooks and now believe they’ll see some gains.

  1. Jill Hood Wrenbeck says:

Nicely slanted article, guys. Wal-Mart is up because it’s so cheap people are defecting from their preferred grocers. I’ve lifted my personal ban on the store for particular items, but their fruits, vegetables and meats are disgusting so I still pick those up in town. As for Home Depot, homeowners are resorting to making their own home repairs rather than hiring a plumber, electrician, etc. We need a pick-up in all retail before we can feel good about the economy.
