State Police Trooper Hit By Car

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ)- A Michigan State Police trooper is hospitalized in critical condition after he was hit by a car on I-96 in Livingston County.

State Police inspector Jim Shaw says the trooper, who works out of the Lansing Post, and his partner had made a traffic stop Sunday evening along eastbound I-96 near Webberville and was walking back to his patrol car when he was hit.

Shaw says the trooper was transported via helicopter to the University of Michigan hospital.

The 49-year-old Novi man who hit the officer was taken to another hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Police aren't sure what made the man lose control of his car.

The investigation is ongoing.
