Former Detroit Mayor Speaks At Church; Signs Copies Of New Book

DETROIT (WWJ) - Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick makes his first speaking engagement in Detroit since his release from prison. As WWJ's Stephanie Davis reports, Kilpatrick spoke at one of Detroit's larger churches.

In a crowd of mostly supporters, Charmine Wilson of Detroit was one of the first in line: "I'm here to support him, to let him know he is still loved, and he still has lots of support here," said Wilson.

Inside the Citadel of Praise Church in northwest Detroit standing ovations for the former mayor who told the crowd it was time they heard from him.

Kilpatrick was released from prison on Aug. 2, and appeared at the church to speak to the crowd and to sign copies of his recently released "Surrendered: The Rise, Fall and Revelation of Kwame Kilpatrick."
