Ski, Snowboard Demo Freezes Over Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM (WWJ) - There will be real snow in Birmingham Saturday! Ski and snowboarders will be rail-jamming in between Woodward and Old Woodward as part of the city's third annual Rail Jam.
Businessman Don Thomas said the snow was brought in for the event where people can come watch the participants and even meet some pro's.
"We have 70 riders registered and we have another 30 on the wait list, so we've built it up really quick. So, the competition as such is closed, so there's no more, we can't accept any more riders for the competition. So they can just come out and check out the action."
The USASA sanctioned competition begins at noon, when approximately 60 amateur competitors will test their skills on a 10-foot high ramp. Heats will run every 45 minutes until 3:30 p.m.
"We have some demonstration with some snowboard and ski pros. One guy, Spencer Millbocker, is flying out from Colorado to do a demonstration. We have three snowboarders who flew in from Idaho. And then we have a competition with 70 kids, its ski and snowboard," Thomas said.
Thousands of dollars in prizes and giveaways will be awarded to both competitors and spectators.
