Doug Karsch: Lions Are Acting Like A Great Team

You can only act like a great team for so long before you need to be acknowledged ... as a great team.

The Lions have won two games on the road and that is accomplishment in the NFL. Great teams hold serve at home and take about 50% of their road games. Sure, the Vikings and Chiefs are winless, but that doesn't mean winning in their barn is a given.

I don't think they are great yet, but they sure are acting like it.

Dallas will be a much tougher road game. But even if Dallas wins on Monday night, the Cowboys' record will be the same as Tampa (2-1), which lost to Detroit.

We talked last week about how tougher challenges lay ahead -- like how will the Lions secondary hold up against elite passing attacks, with Green Bay, New Orleans and Atlanta coming up on the schedule? But this past Sunday the Lions passed a challenge with flying colors -- how would they do while facing a deficit in a hostile environment? Say what you want about the Vikings, there have been few environments as unfriendly to Detroit than Minnesota.

The Lions shouldn't be considered a great NFL team just yet, but they are getting close.
