GLITR Tech Tour Taking Off For Fall 2011

And, we're off.

The Great Lakes Innovation and Technology Report is hitting the road for its fall 2011 Tech Tour.

The fall tour concentrates on university tech transfer and research spinoffs -- essentially, science projects that can be turned into Michigan jobs and Michigan businesses.

Over the next eight days, GLITR Editor Matt Roush will be visiting seven schools -- Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Grand Valley State University in Muskegon, Allendale and Grand Rapids, Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan State University in East Lansing and Kettering University in Flint.

We'll be talking about our discoveries afternoons on WWJ Newsradio 950, and of course online -- right here and at www.glitr.com.

Sponsors of this year's fall tech tour include OnStar -- this fall's Tech Tour Mobile is a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck outfitted with an OnStar FMV rear-view mirror, which brings full OnStar service to non-General Motors vehicles -- and Verizon Wireless, which is letting me use one of their ridiculously high-speed data gizmos for my laptop.
