Man Charged In Death Of Battle Creek Girl, 3
BATTLE CREEK (AP) - A 25-year-old Battle Creek man has been charged with murder in this summer's death of a 3-year-old girl who was in his care.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports police on Friday arrested Leo Ackley. He's charged with open murder and first-degree child abuse in the death of Baylee Stenman. She died Aug. 1 at a hospital in Kalamazoo after being found unresponsive July 28.
Ackley was jailed. A message seeking information on whether he had a lawyer was left Friday afternoon with Battle Creek police.
Charges were announced this week by Calhoun County prosecutors after autopsy results showed the child died from head trauma.
Police say Ackley was watching the child in Battle Creek while the girl's mother was at work. He earlier was being sought by police.
