Maple Leafs Nip Detroit In OT

 DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - It was back and forth all night but the Detroit Red Wings couldn't break the third period tie and lose to the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 in overtime on Friday night.

As heard on WXYT 1270 - the Wings and the Maple Leafs were tied up at 3-3 ending regulation play.

Mike Komisarek scored 2:21 into overtime to give the Toronto Maple Leafs the preseason win.

Mike Brown added two goals and Jake Gardiner a goal and an assist for Toronto. Jonas Gustavsson stopped 26 shots.

Todd Bertuzzi, Gustov Nyquist and Johan Franzen scored for Detroit. Thomas Holmstrom had two assists and Jimmy Howard made 15 saves.

Red Wings' defenseman Brendan Smith was sent to Grand Rapids of the AHL on Friday after he was suspended for eight games - the remainder of the preseason and five regular-season games - for a hit to the head of Chicago's Ben Smith on Wednesday.

He wasn't expected to make Detroit's roster.
