Desk Prop Prompts Call To Bomb Squad

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Fire Department and bomb squad were called to the UAW-Ford National Program offices in downtown Detroit Monday morning after reports that a grenade was found in the building.  Turns out it was a desk prop.

UAW spokeswoman Michelle Martin told WWJ the item in question was a desk prop, similar to a paperweight.  Detroit police confirmed the prop was found on an employee's desk.

Workers at the office on Jefferson Avenue say they were evacuated for a short time around 7:45 a.m.   Everyone was cleared to go back into the building around 8:30 a.m.

Firefighters were also called to the building as a precaution.

No injuries were reported.
