Detroit Zoo To Host Inaugural 'Zoo Brew'

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Lions, tigers and beers... oh my! The Detroit Zoo will no lager be just for kids when it hosts the inaugural Zoo Brew on Thursday, Oct. 6. The event, held from 6 to 10:30 p.m., will sample more than 30 beers from select Michigan craft breweries.

Zoo Brew will offer guests the unique experience of taking a twilight stroll through the Detroit Zoo with favorite brew in hand. The event will also feature live music by popular local blues-rock band the Howling Diablos with special guests Horse Cave Trio and Staggo Lee.

Zoo Brew tickets are available for $30 online. Ticket packages include Zoo admission, parking and 12 beer tasting tickets. Additional tasting tickets and food will be available for purchase. Event tickets are limited, so advance purchase is encouraged.

Designated Driver tickets will be available at the gate the night of the event for $15 and include zoo admission, parking and unlimited soft drinks. Designated Driver ticket holders will not be permitted to consume alcohol at the event.

Zoo Brew will be held in the Detroit Zoo's new Events Pavilion, rain or shine. All attendees must be 21 or older; photo ID is required.

Situated on 125 acres of naturalistic exhibits, the Detroit Zoo is located at the intersection of 10 Mile Rd. and Woodward, just off I-696, in Royal Oak. Admission is $12 for adults 15 to 61, $10 for senior citizens 62 and older, and $8 for children 2 to 14 (children under 2 are free).
