Canine Companions To Host 'DogFest' In Northville

NORTHVILLE (WWJ) - Grab your pooch, hook up the leash and head out to Northville for Canine Companions "DogFest," featuring Snoopy and Friends.

The Michigan Volunteer Group of Canine Companions for Independence is hosting the DogFest on Sunday, Oct. 9.

The event is a family-oriented, pet-friendly walkathon and will feature a pledged walk, trick-or-treat stops, a raffle and a costume contest for both humans and dogs.

All proceeds will benefit Canine Companions for Independence, a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships.

It costs Canine Companions approximately $45,000 to breed, train, and place an assistance dog with an individual who has a disability. There is no charge for the dog, its training and ongoing follow-up services. Proceeds from the event allow Canine Companions to continue to provide "Exceptional Dogs for Exceptional People."

DogFest will take place Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at Maybury Park, located at 20145 Beck Road in Northville.
