Pedestrian Hit, Killed Crossing Merriman Road

WESTLAND (WWJ) – Authorities are investigating the death of a Westland man who was hit by a car while crossing the street Wednesday morning.

Police said the 27-year-old was jay walking across Merriman Road in Westland when a car slammed into him. He was then hit by a car going in the opposite direction as he was laying in the road.

Both drivers stopped and tried to help him.  No criminal charges have been filed as the incident remains under investigation.

Westland Police Sgt. Patrick Corby said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The victim’s name was not immediately released.

    No alcohol, but stupidy was a factor. What’s wrong with looking both ways when crossing the street? I’m just sayin’!

    The pedestrian was my friend. He was careful enough to look, but I know that area. It was a little bit of both the pedestrian and the driver’s fault. People speed down there all the time.
