Where's The Beef? Southgate Restaurant Offers 338-lb Burger

SOUTHGATE (WWJ) - Tipping the scales at a belly-busting 338 pounds, Mallie's Sports Bar in Southgate is waiting for Guinness World Records to ratify its latest carnivorous creation.

Mallie's has been the big burger record holder for quite a few years now. In 2008, the restaurant held the record with a 134 pound burger. Six months later, they built a 164 pound burger. In 2009, they submitted a 186 pound burger and in January, their "Guinness Burger" weighed 319 pounds.

Now, the restaurant is hoping to crush that record with their 338 pound "Absolutely Ridiculous Burger."

Thursday's burger unveiling came with a 100 pound bun plus 10 pounds of onions, 15 pounds of lettuce, 30 pounds of bacon, 30 pounds of tomatoes, 36 pounds of cheese and a load of condiments. And just in case you're watching your weight, the $2,000 menus item has 540,000 calories.

If you're looking to create your own three-foot-tall burger, make sure you have a lot of time because restaurant owner Steve Mallie said it took them 22 hours to cook the sucker. And no, they didn't use the world's largest grill to cook the burger -- they baked it in the oven.
