Woman Raped,Throat Cut In Pontiac

PONTIAC (WWJ) - A woman is expected to survive after she was raped and her throat cut over the weekend.

Police said a 28-year old was walking near the Baldwin Market Liquor Store in Pontiac when she was attacked Saturday night. The victim told police a knife-wielding man threatened to kill her if she didn't have sex with him.

Her purse and cell phone were stolen before the suspect cut her throat.

Police said they are following up some leads but are still looking for the suspect and any witnesses.  A description of the suspect was not immediately available as the woman has been left temporarily unable to speak after undergoing a tracheotomy.

People who live in the neighborhood have said it's a haven for crime.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) SPEAK-UP.  There is a cash reward and callers may remain anonymous.
