Mayor Bing, Council To Meet In Closed Session

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit City Council will meet privately with Mayor Dave Bing on Wednesday to discuss several issues, including city finances.

According to Council President Pro Tem Gary Brown, raising revenue for several city projects is on hold because Mayor Bing's deficit elimination plan, submitted for approval three months ago, has not yet gotten the OK from the State Treasury Department.

"We'd also like to talk about our overall fiscal situation with regards to the budget," said Brown.

Brown said important projects are in jeopardy.

"There are at least $300 million worth of bonds that have to be approved for the water department," he said. "There are $75 million worth of bonds that have to be approved with regards to light rail."

Council is also to hear from Mayor Bing about his plans to fix city buses and address the chronic problems in the public lighting department.
