Birney K-8 School Set To Reopen On Monday

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Birney K-8 School in Southfield will reopen Monday after being closed this past week due to a water main break that occurred on Oct. 30.

The break caused the boiler room and connecting tunnels to be flooded in 8 feet of water. Five classrooms, including a computer lab were also affected.

Neither the cause of the break, nor the exact amount of the damages has been determined.

The district completed repairs to the broken main on Wednesday and have installed a temporary steam boiler and a new hot water heater.

Three other hot water heaters will have to be replaced, along with flooring in one of the classrooms.

Final repairs will be completed within the next few weeks.
