Duke 74, MSU 69

NEW YORK (WWJ) - Michigan State University made a late game rally but came up short as the Spartans lose to the Duke Blue Devils 74-69 on Tuesday night and Duke's coach gets a record breaking win.

Junior guard Andre Dawkins had 26 points for Duke leading the Blue Devils to the win and handing a record breaking win to Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski.

The win gives Krzyzewski his 903rd career victory - breaking a tie between the Duke coach and his former mentor Bobby Knight to become the all-time winningest men's coach in Division 1.

Keith Appling had 22 points for Michigan State and Brandon Wood added 15. The Spartans finished with 21 turnovers.

The Blue Devils went on a 20-1 run at one point giving Duke a 61-41 lead - as the Spartans missed several opportunities down low, as the Blue Devils kept the pressure on hitting 6-6 free throws and another 3 to keep out of reach.

The Spartans take on Texas Southern in East Lansing on Friday.
