Teen Dies In Fiery Car Crash

DEERFIELD TWP. (WWJ) – Police say a 16-year-old girl in Lapeer County died after her vehicle was broadsided and burst into flames.

Sheriff’s Deputies say Morgan Dingus was driving westbound on North Branch Road in Deerfield Township around 8:35 p.m. Wednesday when her vehicle was hit by a truck driven by 18-year-old Cody Olmstead.

Police say Olmstead was driving southbound on Booth Road when he blew past a stop sign and hit Dingus’ vehicle, which immediately erupted in flames.

Dingus was pronounced dead at the scene while Olmstead was transported to Hurley Medical Center in Flint with life threatening injuries.

Police believe alcohol played a role in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
