Police say the retired officer shot a young man who forced his way into a home on Coyle Street on the city’s westside.  Police aren’t saying if the retired officer lived in the house.

The break-in and shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. Friday.

The suspected burglar is between 19 and 23 years old.  Names have not been released. Police say a preliminary information indicates he was carrying some kind of weapon and was shot several times.
