Hundreds Of Michigan Trees Sent To Troops

KALAMAZOO (WWJ) - A Christmas tree farm northwest of Kalamazoo shipped out 700 trees on Monday as part of the national campaign "Trees for Troops."

"I feel like it's hardly anything compared with what they do for us," said Betsy from Wahmhoff Farms Nursery.

"But if it can bring some Christmas cheer, Christmas spirit to them during ... especially the holidays can be so lonely when you're not necessarily with family or you've got someone missing from your family, a lit up Christmas tree can at least help alleviate some of that sadness and loneliness," she said.

Wahmhoff-Perales said almost everyone in the tiny town of Gobles gets involved in the effort with school children sending handmade ornaments along with the trees.

"We just want them to know that they're not forgotten and that we do appreciate everything they're doing," she said. "It's so cool for us to be able to do something that you can like see and touch."

"Trees for Troops" has been sending Christmas trees to U.S. Military bases around the world since 2005.
