Accident Closes 8 Mile/John R Intersection

HAZEL PARK (WWJ) - An accident at the intersection of 8 Mile and John R has brought down the traffic signals, creating a real mess.

Reporting from the scene, WWJ's Vickie Thomas says it was a sea of flashing emergency lights, and traffic was being diverted off 8 Mile Road onto John R in both directions for more than an hour.

The traffic signals are on the ground and, looking across, Vickie could see that an SUV and a car mixed it up somehow and that SUV took down the light pole, bringing down the traffic signals.

Traffic was extremely backed up headed westbound, so police officials were advising motorists to look for alternate routes, if possible.

Two people were taken to a local hospital. They are expected to be okay.
