19-Year-Old Woman Dead In Chesterfield Twp. Accident

CHESTERFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - A busy section of I-94 at 23 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township was the scene of a deadly accident early Monday morning.

Authorities tell WWJ Newsradio 950 that a 19-year-old female from Saint Clair Shores was fatally injured and her passenger, a 19-year-old male from Algonac, was hospitalized in critical condition.

It appears that the vehicle driven by the 19-year-old was eastbound on I-94, at a high rate of speed, when they lost control and crashed into the guard rail.  Their car became disabled and came to rest back in the eastbound lanes of I-94.

A 27-year-old driver from Chesterfield, also east bound on I-94 and unaware of the accident in front of him, then collided with the 19-year-old's disabled vehicle.

The 27-year-old man from Chesterfield and his 26-year-old female passenger from Macomb suffered only minor injuries.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Speed and alcohol are both factors under consideration.
