Teen Fatally Shot Playing With Gun On New Year’s

SAGINAW (AP) – Police say a 17-year-old accidentally fatally shot himself while playing with a gun during a celebration of the arrival of the New Year in Saginaw.

The Saginaw News reports Travon E. Price died after being shot in the head early Sunday. Police say he was playing with the gun inside his home after he and his 18-year-old brother had been outside firing into the air to mark the New Year.

Police say Price didn’t believe there were any bullets still in the revolver. He was dead when officers arrived at the home shortly before 1 a.m.

Detective Sgt. Joseph Dutoi says the death is “being considered suspicious pending autopsy and a review by the prosecutor’s office.”

    What a senseless tragedy!
This is exactly the problem with lethal weapons, the gunculture, and immature young (or older) people…who, in their right mind would shoot weapons into the air to celebrate new years,(alcohol likely to have been involved), we’re not living in the Middle East or third world countries (or are we?)….who, in their right mind would continue “playing” with a lethal weapn, whether they think it’s out of bullets or not. Such tragedies are easily avoided by NOT allowing immature people of any age to handle weapons. Where were the parents or any responsible adults?
