$1,000 Reward After Ashes Of Boy Reported Stolen

WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ/AP) - A $1,000 reward is being offered after a Waterford Township family says an urn containing the ashes of their 12-year-old son was stolen during a break-in at their home.

Wendy and Dave Turnquist say they returned Friday to their home in Oakland County to find a side-door window smashed. They they've said the urn was missing along with a gold medallion with Ryan Christopher McDonald's thumbprint.

Ryan died in 2007. For many years he battled Kearns-Sayre syndrome, a rare neuromuscular disorder.

The reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers.

The urn has a picture frame on each side that includes photographs of Ryan. The family says the ashes are the only thing that was taken in the break-in, which occurred sometime between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Dec. 30.

Police say they're investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to call Waterford Township Police at 248-674-0351 or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
