Henry Ford Museum Opening Revamped Auto Displays

DEARBORN (WWJ/AP) - The suburban Detroit museum founded by car pioneer Henry Ford is opening its revamped automotive displays this weekend.

"Driving America" opens to the public Sunday at Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn following a Saturday night preview event. The exhibit showcases the museum's rich collection and the enormous influence of the automobile on U.S. culture and daily life.

Those in attendance at the preview are expected to include Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Ford Motor Co. Executive Chairman Bill Ford, who is Henry Ford's great-grandson.

The opening follows a year of construction. The 80,000-square-foot permanent exhibit includes 130 vehicles and more than 60 cases of artifacts. It features some of the most significant cars ever built, from early production vehicles to modern rides.
