Know Before You Go To The Polls: Student PSA Contest

Oakland County High School students will have a chance to have their voices heard in this election year.   The League Of Women Voters of Oakland County is sponsoring a contest, where students in grades 9 through 12 can create a Radio or Television Public Service Announcement, or write an essay urging voters to become informed before they vote.

"The current high school students are going to be impacted by the results of this election even more than their parents' generation," said the League's Renate Soulen.

Soulen adds, "It's ever more important for voters to sort fact from fiction, to develop informed decisions.  The students need to be aware of that, and they have a wonderful opportunity to inform the public, and to make them aware of the importance of not only listening to more than one viewpoint, but to seeking out non-partisan sources of information."

Soulen said this is especially important this year for high school students, including  18-year-olds who will be eligible to vote for the first time this November. Contest entries must be received  by April 20th. The winners will receive cash prizes, and their submissions will be aired on local tv and radio stations.
