#MeetMichigan Social Media Campaign Wins National Award

LANSING -- Lansing-based Motion Marketing and Media has won a national Earned Media Award from PR Newswire and Agility @ Work for its grassroots social media campaign, #MeetMichigan.

During #MeetMichigan, the Motion Marketing & Media Special PRops (short for special PR opportunities) team used social media -- Facebook, Twitter and blogging -- from all 83 counties in Michigan in two weeks.

The idea was to show how the idea of "local" is changing and spread positivity for the state. As a result, @m3_group climbed from a global ranking of No. 16 million on Twitter's Follow Friday (#FF) to No. 10,000 -- and a national ranking of 832 -- in just two weeks.

"This is such an honor," said Tiffany Dowling, who carries the title of "chief conversation starter" at Motion Marketing & Media. "M3 wanted to showcase the power of social media and really give our state a boost. We knew this campaign was a good idea, and we're so proud to be recognized by industry leaders because of it."

Results from #MeetMichigan were positive. The businesses using social media had a generally upbeat outlook on Michigan's economy, due largely to the fact they have a direct line of communication with their customers. They found great success in their communities, and felt that in order to help turn Michigan's economy around, more businesses should support local and Michigan-made products as well as the use of social media.

The Earnies are the first free, socially selected awards recognizing individuals and organizations for outstanding efforts in the area of earned media executed across social media. The awards are only awarded to qualified United States-based entries after review by a panel of judges, who created a short list of finalists in each category. Winners were determined by a public vote and announced on Feb. 16.
