Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority Awarded a National Recognition Award for Engineering Excellence: The Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority has earned a National Recognition Award in the American Council of Engineering Companies  2012 Engineering Excellence Awards competition. The National Recognition Award was given to the Port Authority for its project "Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority Public Dock and Terminal." The award honors projects that demonstrate exceptional achievement in engineering. The DWCPA and NTH Consultants, a Detroit-based engineering firm will be recognized during the black-tie EEA Gala awards program and dinner on Tuesday, April 17 at The Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington D.C. The Port Authority's project will appear in a scrolling on-stage video presentation of all award winners at the Gala dinner, and an etched crystal award will be on display at their dinner table. Representatives from the Port Authority will be recognized from the podium along with all other National Recognition Award winners. The Detroit-Wayne County Port Authority was created in 1978 by the Michigan Legislature to plan, develop and promote the greater Detroit area as a freight transportation and distribution hub for the Great Lakes. It is governed by a five-member board of directors with one member appointed by the State of Michigan, two by Wayne County and two by the City of Detroit. Funding for the Port Authority is provided by the State of Michigan, Wayne County and the City of Detroit.
