MORTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - A Northern Michigan woman accused of leaving her 4-year-old son alone for two days while she was on a drinking binge has been charged with child abuse.

The Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant reports county Prosecutor Peter Jaklevic has authorized a fourth-degree child abuse charge against the 41-year-old Angela Blenman. WZZM-TV says she was arrested on Wednesday at her Morton Township home..

State police investigators said Blenman was likely drunk for 48 hours. They say when police went into the home, they found food scraps, spoiled food and garbage on the floor.

Local TV stations reported that she was passed out when police found her. Speaking to the Morning Sun of Central Michigan, police Sgt. Joshua Lator said Blenman was in and out of consciousness, and was too drunk to meet her own personal hygiene needs and those of her son.

Police said the boy ate scraps of food from the floor and in other areas within his reach.

He has been placed in foster care.
