Smith Engages In First NHL fight

–Rookie defenseman Brendan Smith, in just his sixth NHL game, got into his first fight and got the better of fellow rookie Andrew Shaw. It was a lengthy bout, with a lot of punches thrown. The fight occurred after Shaw took offense to Smith’s hit on Chicago star Patrick Kane. Although Smith didn’t want to fight because the Wings were already short-handed on defense, he was determined not to back down.
