Day After Gas Station Killing Over Condoms, Meeting Planned To Curb Violence

DETROIT (WWJ) - A meeting is planned Sunday between some Detroit gas station owners and residents to address the recent wave of violence based at some gas stations.

It comes one day after a gas station clerk allegedly shot & fatally wounded a customer in a dispute over a box of condoms. Community activist Ron Scott says the meeting was planned before this happened.

"I hope we can come up with some kind of mediation process where individuals learn how to deal with the people that they serve in the community and where people in the community don't feel that they have to react in that manner just to get respect."

Scott says he also hopes there is justice for the family of the victim.

On Friday, a man was shot and killed after an apparent dispute over the price of condoms at a Detroit gas station.

An employee at the gas station said the customer bought a box of condoms, but made a comment that he was overcharged and could have bought them somewhere else for a cheaper price.

Detroit Councilman Kwame Kenyatta is drafting an ordinance that would require gas station owners to hire security guards to protect the public.
