OMAHA (WWJ) – It’s a big night for students, faculty, and alumni at the University of Detroit Mercy, who will be playing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1999.
U-D Mercy President Antoine Garibaldi says going to the Big Dance means a lot to the school.
“It’s certainly great for our alumni and fans who have been supporting the university and the athletic program for a very long time long time. We know already there are so many new visitors to our website, in fact, nearly 37 percent, of our website visitors over the last couple of weeks have been new visitors,” said Garibaldi.
Garibaldi says that the increase in local and national attention to the school have been wonderful.
U-D Mercy plays number two seed Kansas this evening. The game tips off at 9:57 p.m. and is being televised on the TRU (True) TV network.
Both Michigan and Michigan State also open up tournament play Friday night. The Wolverines tipping off at 7:20pm against Ohio University — pre-game starts at 6:30pm right here on WWJ. The game is being televised on TNT. And at 9:20pm tonight, MSU meets LIU-Brooklyn — with coverage on TBS.
