DETROIT (WWJ) – A Detroit Police spokesperson says a body pulled from the Detroit River is likely that of  a painter who fell off the Ambassador Bridge two months ago.

Fishermen who spotted the body in the water near River Rouge Friday afternoon.

They could find no vital signs and EMS was called. Coast Guard officials did not offer any details about the age or sex of the victim, but a source talking to WWJ Newsradio 950’s Beth Fisher said it was clothing that tipped off police that it might be missing painter Kent Morton.

Morton, 28, of Garden City, fell while working on the bridge on January 11.

Detroit Police Inspector Don Johnson said they can not be sure this is Morton until it’s confirmed by the Medical Examiner.

A positive identification is still pending from the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s office … but Shane Morton says the family believes the remains are those of his brother.

Morton’s brother was on the scene Friday.

Earlier this week, another body was pulled from the river near the Boblo boat docks. That person has not yet been identified, but the Wayne County Medical Examiner said preliminary findings determined that it was a black male.

Stay with WWJ and for the latest.
