Gunman At Large After 3 Shot During Drug Deal Near EMU Campus
YPSILANTI (WWJ) - Police say a gunman is still on the loose Saturday after shooting three young men near the Eastern Michigan University campus border.
Police say 24-year-old Quenton Martez Dodson is wanted for attempted murder, and remains at large.
Investigators believe Dodson is the gunman in Friday night's shooting during a drug deal gone bad in a parking lot at Lowell and Jarvis streets in Ypsilanti.
Detective Sgt. Troy Fulton told AnnArbor.com the victims and a fourth person were attempting to buy Oxycontin and Dodson was involved. Fulton said the shooting evolved after "a dispute over what exactly they were supposed to be getting," during the buy.
At some point, Dodson pulled out a handgun and began firing. One man was shot in the abdomen, one in the hip and the third in the chest. Police say the victims, two 18-year-olds and one 20-year-old, are expected to recover.
Police say those involved in the shooting were not students at the school. One victim is from Ann Arbor and two are from Ypsilanti Township.
EMU spokesperson Pam Young said even though the shooting didn't happen on school property, students were still warned via email and Twitter about the situation.
"It was not on campus, but it was close. As a result, we are always very cautious, so that's why Eastern Michigan put out an alert on its raid system... the Ypsi police department is handling the case, our police officers are just assisting," said Young.
Dodson, who has a criminal history in Washtenaw County, is described as 5'8" tall, 160 pounds with pierced ears and a "scraggly" beard. At the time of the shooting, he was wearing a white baggy shirt, blue jeans and red baseball cap.
