Search On For Escaped Mental Patient

WESTLAND (WWJ) - Westland police are looking for a 50-year-old man who escaped from a mental hospital.

Officials said Demar Devose walked away from Walter Reuther Psychiatric Hospital on Palmer near Michigan Ave. after he was given a yard pass. He climbed over the barbed wire fence, fled on foot and was believed to be headed to Detroit.

Police said Devose, who was last seen wearing all blue, could be dangerous when he is off his medications. He has a lengthy criminal history.

A K-9 unit search the area early Thursday evening detected no sign of him.
