Wings Win In Shootout 2-1 Over Panthers

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Red Wings beat the Florida Panthers 2-1 in a shootout on Sunday.

The Wings make the fans wait - as they trailed 1-0 for most of the game until Jiri Hudler scored late in the third period.  Hudler also put in the winning goal in the shootout. Pavel Datsyu put in the first goal of the shootout, and the Panthers Wojtek Wolski quickly tied it up - before the Wings took the final lead.

"We haven't played well when coming from behind but today we stayed consistent," said Nicklas Lidstrom. "As we head to the end of regular season the points matter so much."

"It was a really tight game ... I thought we hung with it, our penalty kill was outstanding," said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock.

Babcock said he was glad to see goalie Jimmy Howard get one of these tight games under his belt - after being away from the ice.

Howard had 27 saves in net and held off clutch shots in overtime and the shootout to guide the Wings to the win.

Scott Clemmensen  had 31 saves for the Panthers.
