Detroit's FBI Chief Retiring -- But He Won't Go Far

Detroit FBI boss Andy Arena, 49, is retiring after a distinguished career in law enforcement.

Or is he? Arena announced this week he's retiring from the FBI, but he won't be going far -- He'll become head of the newly formed Detroit Crime Commission. "There's crime commissions in other cities...This is a new thing here. I've watched them grow," Arena said.

Arena called into Charlie Langton's Talk Radio 1270 morning show to outline his new position and discuss crime in the city.

The commission will handle quality of life issues, Arena said, look at gaps in law enforcement and try to fill them. "It's going to be a little of everything," Arena said.

So what's lacking? Langton asked. "There's no shortage of issues here and there's a lot of things we can get to them, or legally can't do...I'm going to have the shackles off," Arena said.

He added: "We're not tied to anybody or any group."
