The NHL Makes No Sense

By: Terry Foster

The Red Wings and the Nashville Predators have played three playoff games. The key to winning has not been about been about being bigger or stronger or skating better. It has been blind luck. The maddening thing about this series is the team that has been outplayed has won all three games.

The Wings were better in the first game and lost 3-2. The Predators outplayed them in the second game and won 3-2 and the Wings got off to a bad start but spanked Nashville for much of Game 3, but lost 3-2.

Do you get a pattern?

I am picking the Red Wings to win Game 4, 3-2. Can anyone dispute that?

I laugh at people who say the Wings are losing this series because they are not big enough and tough enough. They blame goalie Jimmy Howard for not being good enough although there was no way he could stop any of the three goals.

An NHL goals is often the roll of a dice. Teams basically flick the puck at the net and hope for a crazy bounce or a rebound. I like it better when they play four on four. There is more open ice and more opportunities to score. It is exciting hockey which means the game should either go four on four or play Olympic size rinks. It would generate more scoring opportunities and it would stimulate the fan base.

The Wings might also win the Stanley Cup because they are terrific in open ice. Instead they play in a senseless league where lucky bounces and goalies with quick reflexes are more important than good, solid team play.
