Hazmat team on the scene.
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) – It was an unusual call and a first for the Sterling Heights Police Department. Police responded on Tuesday to a home on Lana Lane Street, near 15 Mile and and Van Dyke .
According to police, the resident had ordered shoes from China, canceled the order, but opened her front door to a package containing what appeared to be an industrial-sized syringe filled with blue liquid.
“Not knowing what was in it, she called us. The fire department responded and their hazmat team went and checked it out,” said Lt. Luke Riley. “It turned out to be nothing toxic or of any hazardous nature.”
Riley said the suspicious item turned out to be some type of large ink pen.
