Tigers 7, Yankees 5

NEW YORK (WWJ/AP) - The Detroit Tigers snap a five game losing streak beating the New York Yankees 7-5 on Saturday.

As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - the Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead over the Yankees.

Andy Dirks started things off for the Tigers hitting a three-run homer off Freddy Garcia in the first inning and Detroit added another three runs in the second inning.

Dirks was playing Delmon Young's usual position of left field, Dirks made a pair of nice defensive plays, too, running down balls that looked like extra-base hits off the bat.

Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in three runs and Drew Smyly pitched into the seventh inning for his first major league win.

Young was placed on the restricted list earlier Saturday to be evaluated under baseball's employee assistance program. He was arrested early Friday on a hate crime harassment charge following an encounter at his hotel during which police say he yelled anti-Semitic epithets and appeared intoxicated.

Tune in Sunday to 97.1 The Ticket as the Tigers take on the N.Y. Yankees in final game of the three game series - first pitch 1:05 p.m.
